My name is Sam, I'm 21 years old and I have been natural for 4 years. My hair texture is primarily 4b/4c but I do have a few spots with looser curl pattern 3c/4a. I am a proud mother with one son age 2 and currently expecting my daughter any day now.
What's the purpose of my blog?
The main purpose of my blog is to share what I have learned and am still learning about my hair and beauty. I've always loved writing and this is a way to combine both! I also want to be a resource for those who aren't yet in love with their thicker, coilier, kinkier textured hair and need some motivation. Overall, it's about sharing. Let's share what we know to better every aspect of loving ourselves and being healthy!
My Hair Story
A year prior to my big chop I had grown my hair out all summer with only a little relaxed hair at the ends. I loved the puff I had but just before school started I decide to relax again. At the time I really knew very little about being natural and it hadn't really become too big of a thing though some family members had decided to wear their natural texture. Once I relaxed my hair I didn't like it. I missed my natural texture which surprised me. I had been relaxed for as long as I could remember and never wanted anything else. Though I missed it, it was the norm, it was routine for me. New growth meant touch up! Lol. That was how I was conditioned like many ladies. To make an already long story short, that year I kept with it. I did weaves, and relaxers and kept it movin. When summer 2010 came I was off to college (yes I'm a youngin) I wanted a new look so I cut my hair short, kind of a Rhianna inspired cut. Still relaxed but I loved it. It wasn't till that December, after relaxing and coloring and growing out my short cut and watching YT videos on going natural/the bc, that I decided to do it. Cut it all off and have a TWA. I didn't like it as much as I thought though I still preferred being natural. I immediately got my hair braided..lol.
Why I ReChopped?
Oh my goodness! So this is a question I was asked a million times when I did it (Aug 2013). To keep it short and sweet, I had new understanding I my natural hair and had experienced a change in curl pattern and breakage from permanent coloring/ improper moisturizing. Just like that! I was tired of the two textures both at the root and midway to the end. Now I'm one of those people that loves short hair so it was go hard or go home! Not only did I cut off the damaged hair, I cut my hair to a pixie.
That's pretty much it. I love my hair and want others to fall in love with their hair as I have. No matter what the texture, love those tresses, Boo!
As always I thank you for reading!
Stay Koily and Kute ;-*
